Biomaterials, Sustainable Design

A theoretical and practical course focused on EU sustainable development strategies, the circular economy and sustainable design. Students study bio-based, neo-classical and ex-novo materials, and create biomaterial samples from plant and animal waste, including bioplastics, bioceramics, bio-thread and plant-based dyes. The final project consists of a biomaterials sample archive with possible creative applications in art, fashion and design. The course runs for 100 hours annually, with 4 hours per week on 1 day, and is limited to 12 students. Personal consumables and any required personal tools or small equipment are charged to the student.
