Orchestre Jazz

Collective Jazz practice in a small ensemble, focused on standards and classics, oral and written learning, rhythm, phrasing, improvisation, instant arrangements and developing an original musical voice. The course runs for 30 classes per year, 1 hour 30 minutes per week, with 7 to 10 students. Entry tests and an audition are held at the start of the year.

Jazz esthétiques actuelles

Small ensemble workshop exploring current Jazz aesthetics, Fusion, Jazz rock and blends with Maghreb, African and Caribbean music. The programme includes stylistic markers, improvisation, odd meters, instrumental timbres and effects, rhythmic work, polyrythms and collective development of each student's musical identity. The course runs for 30 classes per year, 1 hour 30 minutes per week, with 7 to 10 students. Jazz fundamentals, an appropriate repertoire and rhythmic and metric skills are required, with tests and an audition at the start of the year.

Vocal Jazz

Chorale jazz et musiques afro-américaines

A convivial choir for singers and instrumentalists who want to practise singing together. The repertoire includes polyphonic Afro-American music by composers including Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Carlos Jobim and Stevie Wonder. The focus is on ensemble work, intonation, rhythm, nuances, phrasing, articulation and pronunciation. It runs for 30 classes per year, 1 hour 30 minutes per week, with 15 to 20 students. A minimum of vocal practice is preferred and an audition may be required.

Salsa

Collective Salsa workshop studying mainly Puerto Rican and New York Cuban repertoire from the 1970s and 1980s. Students work on ensemble roles, increasingly complex repertoire, rhythm, stylistic characteristics, improvisation and instant arrangements. A Salsa history course and specialised individual instrument lessons are also offered. The course runs for 30 classes per year, 1 hour 30 minutes per week, with 8 to 12 students. Latin Jazz

Workshop combining Afro-Cuban rhythms and Jazz elements, including claves, merengue, mambo, cha-cha, phrasing, interpretation, improvisation and a progressive repertoire from the 1930s to the present. A good instrumental level and prior knowledge of Salsa and Jazz are required for most levels, while an introductory level is available to students with suitable instrumental technique and rhythmic grounding. Collective workshop exploring Soul, Rhythm'n Blues, Funk, House, Acid Jazz and current groove. Work includes rhythm and brass sections, group sound, accompaniment of vocalists, lead and backing vocals, harmonic and rhythmic analysis, body feel and improvisation. Workshops may give presentations in concerts organised by the school. The course runs for 30 classes per year, 1 hour 30 minutes per week, with 7 to 10 students. Experience playing in an ensemble and mastery of the instrument are required, with tests and an audition.
