CommonWealth Beacon is seeking a managing editor to produce original journalism on policy, politics, and civic life in Massachusetts. The role oversees the daily flow of newsroom copy, collaborates with reporters to develop story ideas and support reporting, and edits long-form and breaking news pieces. Responsibilities include maintaining the editorial calendar, developing coverage priorities, editing staff reporters, supporting audience development and event planning, leading the Download and Saturday Send newsletters, and coordinating with the digital producer on social assets. The managing editor is expected to uphold accuracy, fairness, and ethical standards, attend staff meetings, work in person at least three days a week, and contribute to the strategic direction of the newsroom. Qualifications include 6 to 10 years of journalism experience, familiarity with Massachusetts politics and policy, a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, strong editing, writing, research, analytical, communication, and news judgment skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments. Experience with audio, video, data journalism, newsletter and website platforms, and nonprofit news is desired but not required.
