Dopamine transporter imaging performed using SPECT to evaluate dopamine transporter activity within the nigrostriatal pathway. It may support the distinction between Lewy body or Parkinson disease and Alzheimer disease when there is genuine diagnostic uncertainty. It is not used routinely and requires individualised clinical assessment.
