Djirra's Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service provides culturally safe, trauma informed, holistic and intensive legal and non-legal assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced family violence or sexual assault. The Senior Lawyer provides legal advice, representation, court advocacy, duty services, casework, assistance and referrals in family violence intervention orders, child protection, family law, victims of crime assistance and related civil matters. The role maintains a significant caseload focused on complex matters, develops regional stakeholder relationships, conducts outreach, delivers community legal education and training, contributes to law reform and supervises and mentors Lawyers and Paralegal Support Workers. Essential requirements include eligibility to hold a legal practising certificate in Victoria, a law degree, at least five years of practical legal experience in family violence related law, a Working with Children Check Card, a Police Check and a current driver's licence. Some out-of-hours and overnight travel is required. The position is based in Shepparton and salary is as per the SCHCADS Award.
