Join Djirra's Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service in Warrnambool. The role provides high quality legal advice, court advocacy, duty services, casework, assistance, referrals, representation and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients who have experienced family violence or sexual assault. Areas of practice include Family Violence Intervention Orders, Child Protection, Family Law and Victims of Crime Assistance. The role also involves working collaboratively with Paralegal Support Workers, developing regional stakeholder relationships, conducting outreach, delivering community legal education, contributing to law reform and policy work, supervising and mentoring Paralegal Support Workers, maintaining client files and completing reporting and administration. Applicants must be eligible to hold a legal practising certificate in Victoria, hold a law degree, Working with Children Check Card and Police Check, and have a current driver's licence. Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures and the issues affecting these societies is essential. The position requires strong communication, legal, organisational, stakeholder engagement and teamwork skills, with the ability to work autonomously and handle challenging situations with cultural appropriateness and sensitivity. Some out-of-hours and overnight travel is required. Salary is as per the SCHCADS Award.
