Work directly with the Chief Engineer to start, monitor, and maintain machinery, assist with engineering duties, handle mooring lines, participate in safety and security drills, enforce crew and passenger safety, stand engine watches, operate fixed fire suppression systems, fill and pump fluids, switch between shore power and generators, and support other departments. Requirements include TSA TWIC, First Aid and CPR, a US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document with QMED rating, high school or equivalent, and two years of qualified engine room experience. An Assistant Engineer's License and additional ratings such as Lifeboat, Firefighting, and STCW are desired or recommended.
