Support Indigenous clients navigating the BC justice system and act as an intermediary between Indigenous accused and the criminal justice system. Duties include supporting clients with court procedures and processes, arranging or attending court and legal appointments, assisting with affidavits and legal forms, providing referrals to complementary and alternative services, maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation, building partnerships with agencies and programs, and ensuring cultural support is provided. Applicants require at least two years of criminology or directly related work and lived experience, knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, some knowledge of justice systems, criminal procedures, sentencing principles, alternative measures and restorative justice, effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to travel, and a Class 5 driver's licence. Microsoft Word, Excel, internet and database management experience is an asset. The successful candidate will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
