Support Indigenous clients involved in the BC justice system by providing guidance on court procedures and processes, arranging or attending court and legal appointments, assisting with affidavits and other legal forms, helping accused people navigate the criminal justice system, providing referrals to complementary and alternative services, maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation and justice processes, developing partnerships with supporting agencies and programs, and ensuring cultural support is provided. The position requires at least two years of criminology or directly related work and lived experience, knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, the ability to work with Indigenous people, some knowledge of justice systems, criminal procedures, sentencing principles, alternative measures and restorative justice, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to travel. A Class 5 driver's licence is required, and the successful candidate will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check. This full-time position is based at the Nanaimo office and is subject to BCGEU membership.
