The Native Courtworker acts as an intermediary between Indigenous accused and the criminal justice system. Duties include providing support on court procedures and processes, arranging or attending court and legal appointments, assisting with affidavits and legal forms, supporting accused people in navigating the criminal justice system, providing referrals, maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation and criminal procedures, maintaining partnerships with supporting agencies and programs, and ensuring cultural support is provided. Applicants require at least two years of criminology or directly related work and lived experience. Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, justice systems, sentencing principles, alternative measures and restorative justice principles is required. Effective oral and written communication, the ability to travel, and a Class 5 driver's licence are required. Microsoft Word, Excel, internet and database management knowledge is an asset. The successful candidate will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check. The position is based at the Duncan office and reports to the Regional Manager.
