Details.
A certified physical therapist inserts a very thin needle into a tender spot or trigger point in a muscle to trigger a contract and relax response. This helps draw oxygenated blood to the painful area, release muscle tension, and promote healing. It may benefit back, neck, sciatic, shoulder, elbow, hip, headache, foot, and ankle pain. Most people do not feel the needle insertion, though mild cramping or twitching may occur. Exercise and normal activities are encouraged after treatment. Stay hydrated, gently massage the muscle, and keep the muscle loose with movement and exercise. Not offered in New York state, but available in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
