Details.
A physical therapist uses a rubber pump or silicone cups to create suction, lift and separate tissue, and support relaxation, blood flow, pain and inflammation management. Techniques include longitudinal, cross fiber and circular cupping. The therapy may be used for myofascial pain, chronic neck pain, low back pain, fibromyalgia, muscle relaxation, trigger point release, lymphatic flow, circulation and scar tissue adhesion. It should not be performed on skin with wounds, infection, burns or active inflammation. Bruising may occur and can last up to two weeks. A full assessment determines whether cupping is suitable.
