UnLocal is hiring a full-time, exempt Staff Attorney within its Legal Department. The role primarily supports the General Practice, providing representation in humanitarian immigration matters with an emphasis on removal defense. Responsibilities include conducting client intakes, assessing eligibility for relief, providing legal consultations, representing clients before Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals, preparing motions, applications and appeals, handling matters including asylum, withholding of removal, Convention Against Torture claims and cancellation of removal, submitting affirmative immigration filings, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, participating in legal clinics, and developing and presenting community education materials. The position requires a J.D. degree, admission to the New York State bar, and 1 to 3 years of relevant immigration law experience including removal defense. Strong writing, oral communication, collaboration, multitasking and problem-solving skills are required. Spanish or French proficiency and experience with LGBTQ+ communities, people of color, youth, pro se representation, community education, outreach or federal litigation are preferred.
