Law clerks assist with representing clients from birth to age 21 across the Juvenile, Adult Guardianship, and Domestic Relations Divisions and Appeals Unit. Duties may include drafting motions and court documents, legal research, appellate briefs, case preparation, witness interviews, and assisting attorneys in advocacy. Adult Guardianship law clerks may also conduct research, draft memoranda and pleadings, prepare for hearings, accompany attorneys on field visits, and appear in court under supervision if licensed under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711. Students receive orientation, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited law school and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Internships and clerkships are unpaid.
