Work experience students may be invited to watch and learn about how operating theatres work and how patients are cared for within the theatre complex. Students must complete the appropriate application process and forms from the Human Resources department before starting. Duties are observational only, and students must respect patient confidentiality and dignity, follow theatre instructions, avoid touching sterile items, and not do anything they have not been trained to do. Visitors may ask staff questions and can leave the theatre at any time. Many Trusts have a minimum age of 17 for anyone except patients in the operating department.
