Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Stroke Rehabilitation

at Mary Omar · New York

Details.

Combines an FDA-approved implanted vagus nerve stimulation device with in-clinic physical therapy to improve hand and arm function for chronic ischemic stroke survivors who continue to experience moderate to severe upper limb impairment after active rehabilitation. The device is implanted during an outpatient procedure, with same-day discharge. After a one-week recovery, a therapist pairs stimulation with rehabilitation tasks, and patients may use a magnet activator during rehabilitation exercises and routine activities at home. Surgery and rehabilitation are covered through most insurances.
