A non-surgical procedure for uterine fibroids performed by an interventional radiologist. A catheter is guided through a blood vessel from the wrist or groin to the arteries supplying the fibroid, where medication is released to block the small vessels and cause the fibroid to shrink. Preparation may include fasting and blood tests. The procedure is performed under twilight sedation. Recovery may involve pain or nausea, with some patients admitted overnight for pain management. Most women return to normal activity in about one week and have follow-up appointments a few weeks later.
