Details.
Diagnostic imaging using sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Scans are performed by trained Sonographers and Radiologists, are painless, do not involve radiation, and are suitable for imaging babies and children. Common procedures include abdomen, pelvic and obstetric ultrasound. Bring your referral, Medicare and/or Pension Health Care card, and previous films relating to the region being imaged. Preparation depends on the area being scanned. Pelvis, lower abdomen, kidney, bladder, gynaecological and pregnancy ultrasounds may require a full bladder. Upper abdominal scans may require six hours of fasting. Musculoskeletal ultrasounds usually require no special preparation.
