Measures the amount of calcium in the walls of the arteries supplying the heart muscle, helping estimate the risk of a heart attack or stroke over the next 5 to 10 years. Do not smoke or consume caffeine-containing drinks on the day of the scan. No other preparation is needed. There are no expected after effects, and normal activities can resume immediately. The total time in the department is 20 to 40 minutes.
