A simple and painless diagnostic examination using high frequency sound waves to create images of structures within the body. A transducer is passed over the area being examined after lubricant is applied. Clothing must be removed and replaced with a gown. The examination usually takes much less than one hour. An ultrasound technician performs most of the scan, and a radiologist interprets the images and reports the findings to the referring doctor.
