Endodontic treatment that removes infected, inflamed or dead pulp tissue, cleans and shapes the root canals, eliminates bacteria, and seals the canals with gutta-percha. Treatment relieves pain, preserves the natural tooth and is usually completed in one to two appointments. Simple single-rooted teeth can often be completed in one appointment lasting 60 to 90 minutes, while multi-rooted teeth may require a second appointment. Back teeth will usually need a crown after treatment.
