Pterygium Surgery

Details.

Outpatient excision of the pterygium, smoothing of the cornea and placement of a conjunctival autograft secured with fine dissolving sutures or biological glue. The procedure uses anaesthetic eye drops and a small anaesthetic injection around the eye, and takes approximately 45 minutes. Eye drops are required for at least 8 weeks afterwards. Expect the eye to be gritty, sore, red and sensitive to light for at least one week. At least 1 week off work is recommended, and dusty environments should be avoided for 1 week after surgery.
