Non-invasive, non-surgical deep cleaning of diseased teeth below the gum line. Includes deep scaling to remove hardened plaque and tartar, followed by root planing with hand instruments to clean and smooth infected root surfaces. Local anaesthesia is frequently recommended for deeper gum pockets. Treatment may be performed on one side of the mouth per visit, with an average visit lasting 45 to 60 minutes. Depending on the severity of the gum condition, treatment may be completed one quadrant at a time over four visits. After treatment, soreness, sensitivity and bleeding may occur for two to three days. Wait for anaesthesia or numbness to wear off before eating, and be gentle with hot or cold food and drinks.
