A minimally invasive, image-guided procedure used to treat pelvic venous congestion syndrome. Under X-ray guidance, a catheter is inserted via the jugular or femoral vein and navigated to the pelvic veins, where embolic agents such as metal coils or Gelfoam are released to block abnormal or refluxing veins. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic as a walk-in, walk-out day case, with no overnight hospital stay. It typically involves a single treatment session and takes 2.5 to 3 hours from arrival to discharge. Recovery is usually rapid, with most patients able to return to normal activities almost immediately. The neck incision should be kept clean and dry for the first 24 hours.
