Performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. Measures the fluid collection at the back of the baby's neck and, combined with a blood test, assesses the risk of chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome. A detailed structural assessment of the foetus can usually be performed at this stage, along with screening for placental issues including pre-eclampsia.
