A 3.0 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging scan producing detailed images of almost any internal part of the body without harmful radiation. Scans usually last 10 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being examined. Patients should eat, drink and take medication as normal, except for abdominal scans, which require fasting. Wear comfortable clothing without metal where possible. A safety questionnaire is required, and patients should bring previous imaging and their music. Earphones or disposable earplugs are provided. Contrast media may be used where appropriate.
