Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses a strong magnet and radio waves to create detailed images of soft tissues and internal structures without ionising radiation. A qualified radiographer performs the scan and a specialist doctor reviews the images and provides a report to your referring practitioner. Before the scan, safety details are checked, and you may need to remove jewellery or metal items and change into a gown. Hearing protection is provided. Some scans use contrast to capture more detail, and most scans take around 20 to 45 minutes depending on the area examined.
