Hospital Dentistry under General Anesthesia

at Sprout Kids Dentistry · Quincy

Details.

General anesthesia in a hospital setting is used for very apprehensive children, very young children, and special needs children who would not do well with in-office sedation. The procedure is performed at Franciscan Children's Hospital by a skilled anesthesiologist, while the pediatric dentist performs the dental treatment. Treatment may include x-rays, fillings, cleanings, and more. Following the procedure, children may be sleepy for several hours, and mild nausea or fever may occur. Caregivers should monitor the child for the rest of the day and provide a soft food diet.
