Cupping Therapy

at Sports Physical Therapy of New York · New York City

Details.

A physical therapist uses cups and suction to help with relaxation, blood flow, pain, inflammation, tissue distraction release, muscle relaxation, trigger point release, lymphatic flow, local circulation, and scar tissue adhesion. Techniques include longitudinal, cross fiber, and circular cupping. It may be suitable for athletes and patients with myofascial pain, chronic neck pain, low back pain, or fibromyalgia. A full assessment determines whether a patient is a good candidate. Cupping should not be performed on skin with wounds, infection, burns, or active inflammation. Bruising may occur and can last up to two weeks.
