Corneal Cross Linking Treatment

at PersonalEYES Laser Vision Correction · Sydney

Details.

A one-time treatment for early to moderate keratoconus. The procedure involves applying riboflavin eye drops to the cornea, followed by controlled UVA light exposure to strengthen and stabilise the cornea and help prevent further thinning or bulging. It is performed under topical anaesthetic. The outer corneal layer is gently removed, riboflavin drops are applied for about 30 minutes, and the cornea is exposed to UVA light for another 30 minutes. After treatment, a bandage contact lens is placed over the eye, antibiotic eye drops are provided, and a protective shield is worn overnight. Mild discomfort is usually experienced for 1 to 2 days. The total procedure time is around 60 to 90 minutes, with most people returning to normal activities in about a week.
