24-Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

at Dr Sophia Wong · Sydney

Details.

A portable blood pressure monitor is fitted in a clinic and worn on the upper arm during normal daily activities and sleep. The device records blood pressure at regular intervals, typically every 15 to 30 minutes while awake and less frequently during sleep. After 24 hours, the device is returned and the readings are analysed to provide daytime, night-time and overall blood pressure profiles. The service may help confirm or exclude hypertension, assess variable or borderline readings, identify white-coat or masked hypertension, evaluate night-time patterns, and guide treatment decisions.
