New School San Francisco is seeking an exceptional Middle School Social Studies Lead Teacher to design and facilitate rigorous, inquiry-based learning experiences covering history, geography, civics, economics, culture, and the relationship between past and present. The teacher will lead core social studies classes, advise approximately 15 students, provide differentiated instruction during the intervention block, develop standards-aligned curriculum and lesson plans, create and monitor Individualized Learning Plans, assess student progress, use data to guide instruction, and build an inclusive, anti-racist classroom and school culture. Responsibilities include supporting English Learners and students with IEPs, collaborating with learning specialists and teaching teams, partnering with families, leading advisory with a focus on social-emotional learning, and engaging in ongoing professional growth. Applicants must hold a valid teaching credential, preferably from California, and have two years of relevant middle school, content-specific teaching experience with strong academic outcomes for Black and brown students, English Learners, and students with IEPs. The school seeks educators committed to equitable teaching, culturally responsive teaching, inclusion, anti-racist education, restorative practices, Universal Design for Learning, social-emotional learning, and data-informed instruction. Bilingual ability is preferred. Starting salary for a credentialed educator with at least two years of teaching experience is $75,000, with a range up to $120,000 based on experience, plus health coverage and retirement benefits.
