Lead the design, planning, and execution of more than 60 programs and 120 events annually across the Conservatory of Flowers, Japanese Tea Garden, and San Francisco Botanical Garden. The role owns delivery quality, timelines, budgets, margin, profitability, vendor relationships, partnerships, visitor experience, and performance reporting across a $7M-plus portfolio. Responsibilities include leading experience strategy, marquee events such as Flower Piano and Lightscape, civic and institutional partnerships, programming, team alignment, and operational execution. The position supervises the Associate Director of Events and Senior Program Manager and oversees distributed teams, contracted partners, and event personnel. Candidates should have at least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in live events, live entertainment, theme parks, immersive experiences, or large-scale civic programming, with a record of delivering high-impact experiences and accountability for operational and financial performance. Strong leadership, project management, creative vision, partnership experience, sound judgment, professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to visitor experience, the Gardens' mission, and JEDI objectives are expected. This is a full-time, onsite, physically active, indoor-outdoor, public-facing role requiring frequent evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
