PHS Community Services Society is looking for a resourceful handyperson with diverse maintenance skills to work among frontline staff supporting marginalized people. This amalgamated role combines maintenance and mental health work, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, mechanical and general building repairs, preventative maintenance, garbage and hazardous material disposal, building reports, purchasing, social and emotional support for residents, de-escalation, emergency response, basic first aid, overdose response and CPR. The role requires a respectful, compassionate, non-judgmental and anti-oppressive approach, strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to work under pressure. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent experience, at least two years of maintenance or construction experience, awareness of mental health and substance use issues, and current First Aid and CPR certification. A valid Class 5 BC driver's licence is preferred. This is a permanent, regular full-time position with a pension, extended healthcare, dental and vision benefits, working Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm for 37.5 hours per week. The position is unionized under CUPE 5536 and pays $31.56 per hour.
