New associates are assigned to a practice area, and possibly a focused sub-practice area, based on the recruiting process and the needs of the associate and firm. Associates receive market-rate initial salaries and benefits including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, plus participation in the firm's 401(k) retirement savings plan. Practice sections conduct evaluations at least annually, providing feedback on progress and practice development. Associates are considered for partnership after eight to ten years of practice, with no annual quota for partnership decisions.
