Care workers support vulnerable people. The role requires physical effort, including sitting, standing, carrying, walking, and moving and handling people. It also requires mental effort, including dealing with emergencies and short-notice changes in a fast-paced environment, and may involve emotional or psychological effort when dealing with bereavement and challenging behaviour. Appointment depends on satisfactory employment references and completion of an enhanced criminal records disclosure. Applicants must complete a pre-employment induction training programme before starting work.
