Also known as endodontics, this treatment removes inflamed, diseased or injured pulp and bacteria from inside the tooth. The root canal is cleaned, shaped and filled to prevent further infection. Treatment usually involves two or more visits, including removal of infected pulp, drainage of any abscesses, bacterial dressing, temporary filling and a later permanent filling. Local anaesthetic is used.
