Anterior Compartment Syndrome Manual Therapy

at James Maddock · Melbourne

Details.

Manual therapy treatment assesses the relative strength of the calf muscles versus the anterior compartment muscles, aiming to rebalance differences and reduce pressure in the anterior compartment by gently stretching connective tissues, loosening the fascia and returning blood flow. Treatment may include myofascial release, myofascial cupping, assisted soft tissue manipulation using steel tools, and guided resisted range of motion approaches. Corrective exercises are taught to improve foot strike patterns and maintain treatment gains. Suitable for runners, dancers and other athletes experiencing anterior compartment syndrome. Massage therapy cannot correct bone shape or the effects of previous surgeries, and persistent symptoms may require assessment by a podiatrist, sports physiotherapist or orthopaedist.
