A nurse or doctor uses a speculum and small brush to take a sample of cells from the cervix. The sample is tested for changes and may also be checked for HPV. Book an appointment with your doctor, preferably for a time when you are not having your period. The whole visit takes up to 15 minutes. You can ask for a woman to perform the test, have a friend stay with you, and stop at any time.
