Details.
A joint preserving operation designed to delay the need for knee replacement. Primarily for younger patients under 55 with arthritis in one part of the knee, particularly the medial inner compartment. The operation involves breaking and realigning the shin bone, securing it with plates and screws, and redistributing forces through the knee when walking. Pre-surgery CT and EOS scans are used to create 3D printed customised cutting guides. Post-operative rehabilitation may be accelerated due to the accuracy of the plan and the strength of the titanium plates. Suitability, surgery details and the expected post-operative journey are discussed with the patient.
