Details.

An advanced neurosurgical procedure involving implantation of electrodes in specific areas of the brain and a neurostimulator under the skin in the chest. The neurostimulator sends adjustable electrical impulses to regulate abnormal brain activity. The procedure includes pre-surgical assessment with detailed brain imaging, electrode and neurostimulator implantation under local or general anaesthesia, and post-surgical adjustment over several sessions to optimise symptom control. It may be used for conditions including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, severe treatment-resistant OCD, epilepsy, Tourette syndrome, treatment-resistant depression and certain types of chronic pain. Risks may include infection, haemorrhage, stroke, hardware-related complications, speech problems, muscle tightness, balance issues and mood changes.
