Plans, manages and monitors design work from pre-construction onwards, including health and safety risks. Coordinates and oversees design to satisfy Building Regulations, manages compliance strategies, gateways and evidence, maintains the golden thread of accurate and accessible design information, integrates fire and life-safety considerations, collaborates with the client, Principal Contractor and duty holders, and manages design changes affecting compliance. The process includes defining compliance strategy and responsibilities, mapping Building Regulations requirements, coordinating design team evidence and competence, monitoring changes, maintaining the golden thread, preparing submissions, responding to regulator queries and supporting construction where the design evolves. Typical deliverables include a Principal Designer appointment, responsibilities and compliance plan, design compliance matrix, issue logs, golden thread information structure and updates, and gateway evidence packs or regulator submissions.
