This externship is for an exceptionally strong student with a background in diagnostics, differential diagnoses, and medical aspects related to auditory disorders, including surgical ears, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia. The student will be supervised by two audiologists with over 10 years of experience and will serve patients from diverse socioeconomic and language backgrounds. The externship develops strong technical and manual skills and is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with an emphasis on spending 40% of the time, or two days per week, at the Beverly, Massachusetts office. A personal vehicle is required for the Beverly office, although an externship solely at an office accessible by public transportation may be possible. The externship runs approximately from mid-May of the current year to mid-May of the following year, with flexible dates and reasonable time off. Applications require undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a letter of intent, and at least two letters of recommendation, including one from a current or former clinical preceptor. A stipend of $30,000 is paid in monthly installments to offset living expenses.
