Details.
IT support technicians keep an organisation's computers, devices and networks running. They troubleshoot hardware and software, set up equipment and accounts, and help users solve technical problems. Most support roles start on the help desk or as first-line support, resolving day-to-day issues and learning the fundamentals on the job. The role requires a recognised entry certification, some hands-on practice and a genuine willingness to learn. Key skills include troubleshooting hardware and software, working with operating systems and devices, managing user accounts and access, clear communication, networking fundamentals, device setup and maintenance, remote support, methodical fault diagnosis, documenting solutions and knowing when to escalate. There is no degree requirement, and the career can progress into second and third-line support, infrastructure, cloud, networking, security or IT management.
