A medical imaging service using small amounts of radioactive material to show the function of different parts of the body. The radiopharmaceutical may be administered by injection, inhalation or oral ingestion, depending on the area being assessed. Preparation is generally not required, although some scans may require fasting for 2 to 4 hours. Bring your referral form, Medicare card, pension or concession card, and any prior imaging. Results are reported directly to your doctor. Most services are bulk billed to Medicare, although some examinations may incur an out-of-pocket fee. Pension or concession card holders are bulk billed.
