Rubber Band Ligation

at Dr Peter Loder · Sydney

Details.

An office treatment for haemorrhoids. The haemorrhoid is grasped and encircled by a tiny white rubber band, which occludes the blood supply and causes the haemorrhoid tissue to die. More than one band may be applied during treatment, and several treatments may be necessary in some cases. After treatment, avoid opening your bowels for the remainder of the day and avoid strenuous physical activity on the day of treatment. Activity and diet are otherwise unrestricted. Dull aching, a desire to empty the bowels and light bright red spotting may occur. Avoid medication containing codeine, and report severe pain, fever, severe bleeding or feeling faint or unwell.
