New Square Chambers offers up to 10 assessed Social Mobility Mini-Pupillages annually. The scheme is open to applicants who attended a state secondary school and meet one or more specified social mobility criteria, including being the first generation in their family to attend university, having a household income below £25,000, having received or been eligible for state support, having been in care or being a carer, or having refugee or asylum status. Mini-pupillages last up to five days and include an oral advocacy assessment and a written advocacy assessment. They take place in Chambers, with virtual or partially virtual attendance available. All mini-pupillages are unfunded, although travel and other expenses may be covered at Chambers' discretion in cases of financial hardship. High-performing participants are guaranteed a first-round pupillage interview in the next eligible recruitment round.
