A low-dose x-ray examination of the breasts performed on asymptomatic patients to detect breast cancer at its earliest stage. The exam includes positioning and compressing each breast between plastic plates, top-to-bottom and side views of each breast, and interpretation by a radiologist. Avoid deodorant and lotions on the day of the exam, and bring previous mammogram films if they were performed at another clinic. The entire exam should take about 20 minutes or less.
