Service

Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Stroke Rehabilitation

at Dr. Inca Chui · New York

Details.

Includes surgical implantation of an FDA-approved VNS device under the skin in the upper left chest, followed by in-clinic physical therapy paired with vagus nerve stimulation. After a one-week recovery from implantation, a therapist uses a wireless transmitter to activate the device while the stroke survivor performs specific rehabilitation tasks. Magnet-activated VNS can also be paired with rehabilitation exercises and routine activities at home. Intended for chronic ischemic stroke survivors who have completed physical therapy but continue to experience moderate to severe hand and arm impairment. Surgery and rehabilitation are covered through most insurances.
