Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Stroke Rehabilitation

at Sikorski Megan M RN · New York

Details.

Combines an implanted vagus nerve stimulation device with in-clinic physical therapy to improve hand and arm function for chronic ischemic stroke survivors who have not regained mobility after active rehabilitation. The device is implanted during an outpatient procedure, with patients discharged the same day. After a one-week recovery, therapists pair stimulation with specific rehabilitation tasks. Magnet-activated stimulation can also be used during rehabilitation exercises and routine activities at home. Surgery and rehabilitation are covered through most insurances.
